YAHOO'S ONECONNECT WANTS TO CHALLENGE GOOGLE ON THE IPHONE

Yahoo's oneConnect is a native iPhone application intended to integrate contacts, social networks, and communications. Yahoo! plans to integrate contacts from Yahoo!, iPhone, and social networks. Yahoo! Pulse is intended to enable users to see what's happening on social networks including Bebo, Dopplr, Facebook, Flickr, Friendster, Last.fm, MySpace, Twitter, and YouTube. Support for SMS and Yahoo! Messenger is planned as well. Released as a "preview" in September, we tried version 1.0.1 but, unfortunately, didn't have much success with the application. While the application was able to retrieve Yahoo! contacts and messages, we couldn't integrate contacts from iPhone and received a server error each time we tried to connect with Facebook. (We don't know what the source of the server error is). We look forward to trying a successful implementation. -Stuart Whitaker
